That truck should have gone to a muesum or sold to someone who would care for itįires and rumours aside, Just out of curiosity id like to know why they switched from Kenworth to GMC. Lame film but the truck scenes are very good. The GMC truck was pulling a tank trailer which was to be blown up by criminals according to the movie.

Interesting tidbit that many might find interesting, This very same GMC truck appeared in another film movie called "The Last Song" in 1980 with Lynda Carter. there were only 3 KW's used in Smokey and the Bandit 1977 & only 2 trailers, since then the 2 trailers & 2 original 1974 KW's burnt down in a ware house, the 3rd truck was a 1973 KW and was auctioned off in 1980, after 1997 the current location on this truck is unknown Here is the last known loactions on of of the trucks used in Smokey and the Bandit II, My guess is they went to the General because GMC thought it would help them sell trucks if they used a General instead of a W9 in the movie. I happen to know the where abouts of the 4 KW's from SATB 1 and the 3 three trailers I gave ya all the information i knew about that I got straight from Errol Sack co-owner of Universal Studio Truck lots got check out the information I postedĪnd the KW has it's own page this page should be about the GMC Genereal not the KW if ya wanna talk about the KW go under that page talk under this page if ya wanna talk about the GerneralĪnyone ever hear what happened to the General. this came from Hal Needham the director from the movie(s). no one knows the where abouts of the trl. the remaining trl.s were returned to the dealer & parted out. one of the three trailers used for part two burned also.

Shuvlhd69 wrote the KW from part one was purchased by Joe Kleco (former NFL player & "truck driver "in part two). That's sourced from several messageboards. There were a total of four trucks and three trailers used for SATB1. not sure, but look at stacks, the dirty truck has had on tips? look at the different air cleaners & trailer axle placement between clean & drity trucks. There are 2 or more kws(plus trailers) in satb1.

The KW from part one was purchased by Joe Kleco (former NFL player & "truck driver "in part two). I also know by secondhand reports (that are rather frequent in nature, leading me to believe it may very well be true) that one of the truck/trailer setups from SATB1 is at a semi truck dealership in Atlanta. The truck and trailer from the first movie are just as much a film icon as the TransAm, and it just stuns me there's no photos of them as they sit now. I'm honestly damn surprised nobody ever kept track of the whereabouts of the truck/trailer setup from the first movie after production ended. Sources I've read say that four trucks and three trailers were used for the movie, with the mural being painted by a bodyshop in Tennessee, that ultimately lost the photos in a fire, but I've never heard of the trailer itself doing such.Īs for the trailer, I would love to see the remaining one, if any. There original truck and trailer belonged to a freind of mine and was originally painted that way although some people say it was repainted for the movie they would have used the same trailer again in #2 but in 1978 the trailer caught fire along with that awesome mural on itĭo you know if any of those trucks from the Smokey and the Bandit are still around today, and where they are at now? How did the original trailer catch fire Chevv, and do you know if they decided not to use the same Kenworth in part two just for the storyline, since in part 1 they said they were going to buy a new rig with the $80,000? Srosenow_98 wrote While that truck sure does look nice, it simply doesn't hold a candle to the truck and trailer setup used in the 1st movie. That's the reason it looks funny.Īctually you worong it's a 1979 GMC General Is it me or does the aspect ratio look wrong? There goes the snowman in his new GMC General!!! Keep on the sunny truckin' side of Georgia Snowman!!! 10-4!!! This truck should have a rating as high as the Trans Am and Sheriff Justice's car.
